The Official End of WWII Has Come... I have been president of the US for about 5 months now, and have been facing many struggles. The alliance between our country and the USSR has fallen apart. Before the death of Roosevelt, he attended the Yalta conference, where he met with Stalin and Churchill. Stalin promised to make changes regarding Japan and to enter war with them, but did not implement those changes. Just a couple months ago, I met with Stalin and Churchill at the Postdam conference. My biggest concern is the condition that Germany is in now. All of Germany has been completely destroyed, and they are dire conditions due to the loss of money. What do I do to help out Germany? I feel as though it will be beneficial for me establish my position among the European countries and assist them. Some may find it nosy, but the United States is a powerful country as the war ended in our favor, and I want to use our powers for the greater good of the world. Also at Postdam, I took a risk and informed Stalin that I was working on the first atomic bomb. I think what surprised him the most was that in August I decided to drop the atomic bomb on Japan.
The alliance between the United States and USSR has also been destroyed with the end of WWII. With the USSR, our country fought Germany, and now, all that I know is that there is no agreement between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R concerning post war rebuilding. We have already begun some of the rebuilding process, by creating the ratification for the United Nations.
I have noticed that Stalin’s ideas lately have been very radical. And now that the end of the war has come, I can see that Stalin wants to support communism all throughout Europe. Communism is a horrible idea, and our world cannot face such a thing.
The pie chart above shows the number of deaths after WWII. Soviet Union had the largest number of deaths, which explains why their country needs help to be rebuilt.
Today I had a short discussion with Stalin after the Potsdam conference. We talked about the decisions we had made for our country, and a little bit of what the future of our world would look like. It angers me that Stalin won’t agree to make the changes we have found would be best for the world, but I realize he is stubborn. This is something along the lines of how our conversation went:
Stalin: Hello Truman. Me: Stalin, I have been looking for you to ask you questions about the decisions made at the meeting. Stalin: What about them? Me: Well we decided to split up Germany, the western powers took West Germany, and you took Eastern Germany. Stalin: Yes of course, and we will be allowing Poland to hold elections. Me: What about the Nazi war criminals? Stalin: They will be punished accordingly. And Russia will influence the thoughts of the people in the European countries greatly. Me: Communism is not necessary. Stalin: I’m disregarding that last statement, as you know I don’t agree with all your thoughts. At least this meeting finalized everything we decided during Yalta. Me: Yes, although we had a few discrepancies, we were able to complete our decisions.
